Summer Reading 2020

July 10 2020

Summer Reading!

Summer Reading Programs are going online and there is more than one to choose from!

TD Summer Reading Program 2020

The TD Summer Reading Club (TD SRC) is the biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages. The TD SRC is an inclusive program, in English and in French, that strives to engage all children in the joy of reading, while also championing Canadian writers and illustrators. The program helps to connect families with books and to build confidence in reading.

Like in past years, as of June 15, kids can register online at tdsummerreadingclub.ca to access free ebooks, read a web comic and share book recommendations, jokes, silly stories and more with children across the country. Participants can also vote for their favourite summer read as two books go head-to-head each week as part of the new Battle of the Books feature.

Also new this year, the Club will be offering 28 author/illustrator online readings and workshops. To find out who is scheduled, please follow the TD SRC on Instagram or Facebook. The lineup will be announced in the coming weeks.

Happy reading this summer!

Alberta Summer Reading Program 2020

We're also very pleased to announce the launch of the Alberta Summer Reading Club! The ABSRC is the result of a collaboration between Alberta's regional library systems and features content from libraries all over the province.

Even more exciting? Every week, ABSRC will be sharing exclusive new content provided by great Alberta authors, performers, athletes, and more. We have storytimes, magic shows, even sports demos! This content will be available on the ABSRC YouTube channel as well as on the main website. We encourage you to share these widely on your social media pages throughout the summer. We can't name our celebrities yet, but rest assured that kids will be stampeding to YouTube every week!

Each quarter, Hoopla will release a new Spotlight Selection title, along with materials including a discussion guide and exclusive author interview to help you get the most out of your book club. Hoopla will also curate an additional eight recommended titles to meet the diverse interests of any group. Your next great book club pick is here!

This summer, the Spotlight Selection is The Bear by Andrew Krivak, available from Hoopla as both an ebook and an audiobook.
